New online tool helps to forecast avalanche risk

Colorado is the deadliest state for avalanches in the nation, and a new tool is seeking to change that. The Coloradoan reports a new forecast mapping tool on the Colorado Avalanche Information Center’s website, seeks to help backcountry skiers avoid fatal slides. The site features dynamic forecast zones based on current avalanche conditions and afternoon forecasts in the days after storms to help skiers plan. It also features reports from other backcountry skiers. On average, six people die in avalanches in Colorado every year. Last year-seven people died. Read more at https://www.coloradoan.com/.
