A state representative representing the Boulder area, who’s up for re-election, is accused of lying about where she lives. The Boulder District Attorney has charged House District 12 Rep. Tracey Bernett with attempting to influence a public servant, forgery, perjury, and providing false information. Bernett, a Democrat, rented an apartment in Louisville to qualify for office, but investigators said she doesn’t live there; they said they found cobwebs and a mostly empty apartment. They added cellphone records also indicate she’s barely ever visited the building. Bernett hasn’t commented on the allegations. The charges come too late for a ballot change. Colorado’s Secretary of State said if Bernett is re-elected, the state legislature will have to move to oust her from office.
