Greeley man charged for reporting fake puppy robbery

A man who falsely claimed that his new puppy had been stolen from him at gunpoint has been charged with a misdemeanor count of False Reporting. Police said Neal Hefty called police from Centennial Park on Dec. 29th. He claimed his new 10-week-old puppy had been stolen from him at gunpoint. Detectives quickly figured out that Hefty made up the story and that there was no puppy and no armed robber. The picture of the dog was found online, in another state from last May, police said.
