The ground has been broken on a new water treatment plant in Milliken. The town’s old plant was shut down four years ago after state officials found high levels of selenium in the water that the town was releasing into the South Platte River. They had to pay $140,000 in fines, shut down the treatment plant and buy water from Greeley and the Central Weld County Water District. Now, with this new plant, they’ll be able to treat about a quarter of their own water. The $3.4 million plant should be finished by June.
