Lead Pipe Removal Progressing In Greeley

With just less than 10% of Greeley’s water service lines unidentified, the city’s water and sewer department expects all lead pipes will be replaced well ahead of the federal deadline.

In 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency updated the 1991 Lead and Copper Rule that determined there were no safe levels of lead that could be consumed in drinking water.  According to the Greeley Tribune, the new rules require all water systems across the country to complete a full inventory of their pipes and identify all lead lines within the system. Water systems have until 2037 to complete full replacement.   Greeley has been replacing lead lines since 2023 and plans to have all lead pipes replaced by the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest.
