The Larimer County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a transfer of a conservation easement near Rocky Mountain National Park from the Estes Valley Land Trust to county management, continuing to preserve land in the area at no cost to the county. According to the Loveland Reporter Herald, the land trust originally purchased a conservation easement on the Childers Property, a 147-acre plot adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park south of Estes Park, in 1996, with financial assistance from Larimer County. The county typically lets Estes Valley Land Trust take the lead in conservation efforts in the Estes Valley, according to senior land agent Justin Core, but the land trust recently purchased the property outright.
