A $1.67 billion wind and solar project could soon be approved in northern Weld County, but some residents wonder whether those benefits will outweigh the possible costs to local ranchers, the environment and historic lands. According to the Greeley Tribune, on Wednesday, the county commissioners will consider approving a wind and solar farm that’s planned to be built in the Chalk Bluffs region of the county. Located in northern Weld County between U.S. 85 and Colorado 390, the Chalk Bluffs Energy Project would build 79 wind turbines and use more than 2,200 acres for solar panels. This would generate 805 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 600,000 homes.
