Location Data, Insurance Claim Led To Arrest In 2021 Hit-and-Run

Investigators used location data, vehicle parts found at the scene and a reportedly fraudulent insurance claim to identify the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash north of Fort Collins in 2021, according to the arrest document. According to the Coloradoan,  Luis A. Loma, 29, of Fort Collins was killed after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle the night of Oct. 6, 2021, on North Shields Street north of Fort Collins city limits. At the time, Colorado State Patrol asked for the public’s help in finding the driver of the vehicle that hit Loma.   More than four and a half years later, on April 18, 30-year-old Nicholas Sierra of Loveland was arrested and charged with failure to remain at the scene, give information or render aid following an accident involving death, a Class 3 felony, and insurance fraud, a Class 5 felony.
