Any new charter schools hoping to open within the geographic boundaries of Poudre School District will have to receive approval from the district. The Coloradoan reports PSD regained its exclusive chartering authority from the Colorado Board of Education on April 9 in a 5-4 vote along party lines, with the board’s five Democrats voting in favor and its four Republicans opposed. The change, which takes effect for the 2026-27 school year, does not affect the 10 existing charter schools within the district’s footprint that have been authorized by PSD or the statewide Charter School Institute.
