Wind-fueled fire forces evacuations in Boulder Co. foothills

A wind-fueled wildfire forced evacuations in the Boulder County foothills Monday. The 18-acre fire was sparked just after 2 p.m. in a structure in Sunshine Canyon and spread to nearby wildlands. Nearly 1,000 people in Pine Brook Hills and an area west of Foothills Community Park were forced to flee. An evacuation center has been opened at the East Boulder Community Center. Livestock can be taken to the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont while smaller animals are welcome at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. An evacuation warning for an area of west Boulder between Linden and University avenues was lifted at 5 p.m. due to “improving” conditions.
