A snowboarder, who triggered an avalanche Monday on Berthoud Pass, was caught in it and killed. The avalanche occurred on the west side of the pass near Winter Park, taking four people down with it. Two were buried under snow – one was rescued. The other, a 44-year-old man, did not survive. Another snowboarder triggered a separate avalanche around the same time in the same area, but no one was hurt in that slide. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center warns conditions in the northern and central mountains could remain dangerous this week due to high-density snowfall, a historic cold snap, and more snow on the way this weekend.
