Colorado is getting a new area code. The state’s Public Utilities Commission said the area code 748 will be assigned to Colorado telephone customers in the 970-area code region that includes cities in northern Colorado like Fort Collins and cities in western Colorado. The new area code will become operational in 2026 when the current 970 area code is scheduled to run out of available phone numbers. Colorado PUC said the new 748 area code won’t run out of number combinations for nearly four decades.
