‘Suspicious’ powder found with ballot in Adams Co. drop box

A significant amount of a suspicious powdery substance was found along with a ballot in an election drop box in Adams County Thursday. Hazardous materials teams said the substance tested negative for drugs, explosives, or any kind of biological agent. Initial results showed the powder contained cooking substances, but emergency officials say it also contained a “concerning unknown chemical.” The sample has been sent to the state lab for further testing. Results could take as many as five days. The Adams County Clerk and Recorder’s Office said the ballot is in holding, and if it’s deemed safe, it will be processed. If not, it will be marked damaged, and the clerk’s office will work with the voter to cast a new ballot.
