First significant snowfall on tap for CO mountains this weekend

The Colorado mountains could see their first significant snowfall this weekend. Up to a foot of snow is possible in areas of the highest elevation. Forecasters said most of the snow is expected Sunday and will make for tricky travel through mountain areas that day. By this time last year, two Front Range ski resorts were already open for the season. But warmer-than-usual temperatures and a snowless October have made snowmaking operations challenging. The Front Range should also be wary of fire danger. Warm dry air combined with strong winds boosts fire danger both Saturday and Sunday.
