Residents are being warned to be bear aware after a sighting in southwest Fort Collins

Residents are being warned to be bear aware after a sighting in southwest Fort Collins. As reported at colorodoan.com, a bear was seen “running around” the area of the Shields Street and Harmony Road intersection Tuesday, according to a Colorado Parks and Wildlife social media post. Residents told the Coloradoan that they have seen a mother bear and her cub in the area during the past week. CPW warned residents, the best way to keep both humans and bears safe is by removing the bird feeders, garbage, and any pet food on their property to avoid attracting bears.
MEANWHILE….
CPW says they get multiple calls daily regarding bear sightings. So far this year, wildlife officials say they’ve recieved about 5,000 reports of bears, 88 or 2% of which had to be euthanized. Officials say longer winters can have an impact on the number of bears euthanized.
