The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources is embarking on a public education campaign, “Shared Ground,” to inform the community about the importance of staying on designated trails in the region’s open spaces. According to the Loveland Reporter Herald, some unauthorized trails are created inadvertently, when one group wanders off the main path, stomping down vegetation and creating an area that can look to others like a designated hiking trail. More people then walk down the new trail, further establishing it and making it more visible to others who come after.
