The Greeley City Council will discuss a proposal for a new sales tax to help fund economic development projects such as the Catalyst project. According to the Greeley Tribune, if the council chooses to refer the tax increase to the ballot, voters will decide in November whether or not to approve it. The revenue generated from this tax would go toward paying off the $175 million in combined debt for the Downtown Civic Campus and Catalyst, as well as funding other downtown revitalization projects. City staff plans to propose a 0.5% increase, which is expected to generate about $14 million in additional revenue. The details of the measure, including permitted uses of the revenue, have not been finalized.
