Weld County’s new Downtown Justice Center will move forward as a single project following a unanimous vote by the county commissioners this week. According to the Greeley Tribune, since late May, controversy had been bubbling among some county residents and government officials over the interpretation of Section 14-8 of the Weld County Charter. The county commissioners and members of the Weld County Council believed the charter requires that projects costing more than $177 million go before the county’s voters. At the time, the project had been estimated to cost about $300 million.
