A Fort Lupton man was handed 45 years in prison  for a 2022 Weld County crash that killed a Layette man.  48 year old Anthony Eagle had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and driving under the influence – fourth or subsequent offense.  The Greeley Tribune reports on Nov. 2, 2022, crews were called to a crash of Weld County Road 16 and Weld County Road 19, where 38-year-old Jesus Rios had been killed in a car crash. According to a release, shortly after the crash, a witness pulled over to help at the scene, leaving his 15-year-old daughter in the car. Eagle then fled the scene by stealing the truck and driving away with the girl still inside. The girl was able to jump out of the truck before Eagle crashed.
