This week, commissioners approved the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office recommendation to move into a fire ban through May 26. Justin Whitesell, chief of emergency services for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, said this week’s weather event won’t be enough to significantly change the dry fuels on the ground. The current storm system is expected to bring only short-lived relief and won’t be enough to pull Larimer County out of drought, Whitesell said, adding that short-lived events can reduce fire danger for a couple of weeks but it would take a significant number of events to change the larger situation.
