Colorado to abolish the death penalty

Colorado is now the 22nd state to abolish the death penalty. Governor Jared Polis signed a bill yesterday that will end death sentences in Colorado effective July 1st. He also commuted the death sentences of three inmates, who will now instead serve life sentences. Polis says he expects to receive mixed reactions from victims but hopes “this decision provides clarity and certainty for them moving forward.”
