Fort Collins plans to adjust plastic bag ban

Fort Collins is planning to adjust its plastic bag ban which takes effect May 1 to more closely align with state law. The Coloradoan reports the city will move decrease the fee for paper bags from 12 cents to a dime. Come 2024, plastic bags and Styrofoam containers will be completely banned at most stores and restaurants. Small stores with three locations or less, will be exempt from the bag ban but not the Styrofoam ban. Sixty-percent of voters approved Fort Collins bag ban in April of last year. Since then, the city has launched the Bag to the Future campaign to inform residents about the pending changes. They sent three reusable cotton bags to 1,300 households as part of the campaign.
