GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado Men’s Basketball program has added another impact piece to its 2025-26 roster with the signing of 6’6″, 200-pound wing Chancellor White, Head Coach Steve Smiley announced Tuesday. A native of Richmond, Texas, White transfers in with two years of eligibility remaining after competing at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
White brings size, athleticism, and high-level experience to the Bears’ lineup after appearing in 45 career games across two active seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns. He redshirted the 2023-24 season due to injury but returned to play a key role in 2024-25, appearing in 31 games and making one start. In just under nine minutes per game, he averaged 2.9 points, knocked down 18 three-pointers, and showed the ability to impact the game in short spurts.
Among his standout performances this past season were a 14-point effort in a road win over Texas State (Jan. 30), eight points and five boards at Arkansas State (Jan. 16), and seven points in a win at Southern Miss (Feb. 22). As a true freshman in 2022-23, White saw action in 14 games and made an immediate impression, scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds in his collegiate debut against Centenary. He also chipped in nine points at Texas and six points at Drake.
Before college, White starred at Foster High School in the competitive Houston basketball scene. He graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,103 points and earned All-District honors four times. As a senior, he averaged 28.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, earning national recognition as the No. 33-ranked player in Texas and the No. 56 shooting guard in the country by 247Sports.
A highly sought-after recruit, White originally committed to East Carolina before signing with Louisiana. His offer list also included Houston, Sam Houston, Rice, Louisiana Tech, Colorado, and Old Dominion, according to Verbal Commits.
Head Coach Steve Smiley expressed his enthusiasm for the addition:
“We’re really excited about filling this final scholarship spot with the signing of Chancellor White! In this last spot, our focus was on finding a bigger wing that could play multiple positions and was an older player that had legitimate NCAA D1 experience in the Portal, and we feel like we accomplished that by signing Chancellor.
Chancellor has shown tremendous upside playing at a very well-respected Louisiana-Lafayette program these past 3 seasons after a storied high school career in Houston, Texas where he was widely regarded as one of the top players in his class in the city of Houston, one of the top hotbeds of talent in America.
At Louisiana, Chancellor’s career has seen both ups and downs, with success at times during his first and third year and a medical redshirt in his second year. We believe that Chancellor is ready for a bigger role and opportunity to play after playing behind older, veteran players, and we believe he will be a tremendous asset for our program. We can’t wait to start working with Chancellor this summer as we build towards another run in the Big Sky!”
White is the latest addition to a reloaded UNC roster aiming to contend in the Big Sky Conference.
