Lafayette City Councilwoman Tonya Briggs died suddenly Saturday. She was elected in 2021 and served as the council’s liaison on the Human Rights Commission, the Lafayette Open Space Advisory Committee, and the Historic Preservation Board. It’s unclear what will become of Briggs’ seat. Briggs was 44 years old.
