For Labor Day 2018, ABC Radio embarks on an ambitious three-hour project to chronicle the decade since the financial crisis.
In late summer 2008 the five largest U.S. investment banks either failed, were bought out or obtained taxpayer support. The consequences blurred economic, social and political lines. America Works: 10 Years Since the Great Recession takes you back to the days of shovel-ready projects, TARP and companies “Too Big To Fail”; to stimulus, subprime mortgages and foreclosure.
More importantly, our program examines how individuals, neighborhoods and the nation as a whole bounced back. We’ll visit people and places to find out how our spending and saving habits have changed, how the labor force has adapted and whether there are signs of a recession repeat.
