Rabid bat found in Weld County

A rabid bat has been found in Pierce. Health officials says it was sick and couldn’t fly and was taking refuge under a picnic table at Jones Park. Tests confirmed that it had rabies. Now the Weld County Health Department is asking that anyone who may have come into contact with the bat, call the health department immediately. Signs of rabies include nocturnal animals out in the daytime, excessive saliva or drooling, slow or difficult movement, and confusion or aggression. The best way to prevent rabies is to never touch a sick animal and get your pets vaccinated.
