Man accused of shooting his grandfather due in court Monday

An Evans man accused of shooting his father is due in court Monday. 29-year-old Andrew Salazar is charged with one count of assault and two counts of menacing. 77-year-old Ramon Salazar was shot earlier this month in his driveway. Andrew told investigators he was cleaning his gun when it went off, hitting his grandfather. But family members say that’s a lie. They claim Andrew, who lives on an RV on his grandparents property, started an argument with his mother and then grabbed his grandfather’s rifle. Ramon grabbed the barrel and tried to wrestle it out of Andrew’s hands. During the struggle, the gun went off and the elderly man was shot in the stomach.
