Boise is the site as Northern Colorado tries to put together another three-game winning streak and capture the Big Sky Conference Tournament title. Having flown into Idaho’s capital city Tuesday, the Bears got some work in yesterday afternoon before watching the UNC women suffer their heartbreaking season ending loss Tuesday night.
That bit of lead time was huge, given the travel situation that could have been faced had the team been trying to get out of DIA during the blizzard.
The Bears open with a Southern Utah team they handled in both meetings this season, including one that saw Jordan Davis score a career high 36 at Bank of Colorado Arena. The second meeting, just a week ago today, may have seen UNC play its best half of basketball in building a 20 point halftime edge.
The Thunderbirds wore down a tired Idaho State team Wednesday to claim a win in the second of the three men’s games contested.
- Control the paint: Andre Adams scored 23 against Idaho State, but added 8 rebounds and is a tough matchup on the interior
- Stay focused defensively: Southern Utah shot 54% and knocked down 11 treys in their win Wednesday. Against UNC last Thursday, those numbers were 41% and only 3
- “Paint touch threes”: Jeff Linder always talks about these as a key to the offense flowing. It worked well last Thursday night when Trent Harris got loose and hit three of four in a four minute stretch of the first half, boosting UNC to a double-digit lead.
