Dog on the loose killed in eastern Greeley

A dog that killed another dog and three lambs has been shot dead. Animal Control officers say they started getting reports that a dog belonging to a man locked up in the county jail had escaped and was on the loose in the area near the Linn Grove Cemetery. Officers had been on the lookout for the dog since last week, searching over 9 hours one day. They almost caught it several times, but both tranquliizer darts and traps failed. Finally, the homeowner that had the lambs shot the dog in an effort to protect his livestock. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is now working to determine if any criminal charges will be pursued.
