3/8/18: Reno, Day Four – Men’s Preview
Having taken care of business Tuesday, the next step towards a possible Big Sky Conference title is today against one of the two teams that UNC had no luck against this year. The Bears twice held solid leads against Weber State and twice lost.
So, what needs to be done to get past the Wildcats into tomorrow’s semifinals?
A) Andre Spight needs to get comfortable shooting. He hit only 3 pointers in 13 attempts spread over the two previous meetings. This is an “easier said than done” item however, as Spight has not been 100% through these days in Reno. I’ll be interested to see how his health is. He did a good job distributing the ball Tuesday, but the Bears will need more out of him today.
B) Understand that Weber is going to get its shots and move on to the next play. The Wildcats are incredibly efficient, hitting 50% from the floor and 42% from the arc. They will hit their share of shots, so UNC’s players need to be efficient themselves. Bad shots from the Bears only serve to help Weber State.
C) Can UNC overcome the mental block they seemingly have with the Wildcats? Weber has won the past 6 meetings and seemingly has UNC’s number. How tight do the Bears get late if they have a slim lead?
D) Does Weber have enough energy? Randy Rahe’s team has a very short rotation and showed signs of fatigue late this season in dropping three of their final four games.
See you on the radio at 3:05pm today!
