BOISE, ID. – The Idaho Steelheads went 4-for-5 on the power play, en route to a 7-3 victory over the Colorado Eagles on Saturday.
Down by just one goal heading into the third period, the Eagles surrendered four goals in the final frame to suffer their third loss of the season.
Eagles forward Matt Garbowsky netted the game’s first goal when he led a 2-on-1 rush down the left wing before firing a wrister from the left circle past Idaho goalie Philippe Desrosiers to give Colorado a 1-0 lead just 3:59 into the contest.
The Steelheads would find an equalizer on the power play, as forward Steve McParland shoveled home a rebound in the crease to knot the game at 1-1 at the 12:41 mark of the first period. Idaho would grab its first lead of the game with 6:55 remaining in the second period when forward Will Merchant tucked in a rebound on the short-side post to give the Steelheads a 2-1 edge.
The Eagles would strike back just over a minute later on the power play, as forward J.C. Beaudin collected a rebound in the slot and snapped it past Desrosiers to tie the game at 2-2.
With Idaho enjoying a 5-on-3 power play late in the middle frame, forward Justin Parizek would take advantage with a wrister from between the circles that would beat Eagles goalie Lukas Hafner with only 2:44 remaining in the period.
Moving into the third period, Idaho forward Connor Chatham would stuff a rebound in the slot into the back of the net to grow the Steelheads lead to 4-2 just 2:30 into the final frame.
