Arenado, LeMahieu among 2017 Gold Glove winners

 

The best defenders from the 2017 Major League Baseball season were rewarded with some hardware Tuesday as the Rawlings Gold Glove award winners were announced.

Gold Gloves are awarded after receiving votes cast from managers and coaches (75 percent), along with SABR-developed metrics (25 percent).

AL Catcher

Winner: Martin Maldonado, Angels (1st Gold Glove)
Did you know? Maldonado becomes third Angels catcher to win a Gold Glove.

AL First Base

Winner: Eric Hosmer, Royals (4th Gold Glove)
Did you know? Hosmer’s four Gold Gloves ties him with Adrian Gonzalez for most by an active first basemen.

AL Second Base

Winner: Brian Dozier, Twins (1st Gold Glove)
Did you know? Dozier is the first Twin to win a Gold Glove since Joe Mauer in 2010, and first Twins second baseman since Chuck Knoblauch in 1997.

AL Third Base

Winner: Evan Longoria, Rays (3rd Gold Glove)
Did you know? Longoria’s three Gold Gloves are the most in Rays history, and it’s his first Gold Glove win since 2010.

AL Shortstop

Winner: Andrelton Simmons, Angels (3rd Gold Glove)
Did you know? Simmons is the first Angels shortstop to win a Gold Glove since Erick Aybar in 2011.

AL Left Field

Winner: Alex Gordon, Royals (5th Gold Glove)
Did you know? It’s Gordon’s fifth Gold Glove, but 1st since 2014 when he won he won four straight.

AL Center Field

Winner: Byron Buxton, Twins (1st Gold Glove)
Did you know? Buxton joins Torii Hunter and Kirby Puckett as Twins’ center fielders to win a Gold Glove.

AL Right FIeld

Winner: Mookie Betts, Red Sox (2nd Gold Glove)

AL Pitcher

Winner: Marcus Stroman, Blue Jays (1st Gold Glove)

Winner: Tucker Barnhart, Reds (1st Gold Glove)
