Ballot language approved for measure restricting sales of phones to kids
Should kids under the age of 13 be allowed to own a smartphone? A Denver-area dad says no and he’s pushing a new ballot measure to make it illegal. If Tim Farnum gets enough signatures, roughly 300,000, voters would ultimately decide. The measure would ask cellphone retailers to ask about the primary user of a smartphone and then turn in monthly reports to the Department of Revenue. Any retailer who sells a smartphone to someone under 13 could face a $500 fine. Farnum says he came up with the idea after watching his kids get addicted to the devices.
